Junior Courses

Why This Programme?

Choose BLS English for summer junior courses in a safe, traditional English town. Bury Language School English is a professionally run school that is fully accredited to the highest standards.

The one thing that makes school special is the quality of their host accommodation. This is very important for summer junior courses. BLS hosts care and help you to relax and enjoy your course. The school believes that accommodation can be an area of concern and apprehension so Bury Language School can assure you that we put a lot of time and effort into choosing the best. The school inspects and check all hosts according to British Council guidelines. This includes DBS checks.

Students will be either walking to school or driven both to and from school. Time to school is a maximum of 30 minutes and there are no extra costs for being driven by the host. If walking, hosts will accompany them on the first day to make sure students are comfortable with the walk.

Most juniors will have the chance to share a room with a student from another country. This gives you the chance to speak more English. While you are here, BLS team will talk to you to ensure you are settling in and happy with the accommodation. We regularly inspect our host accommodation and it meets British Council standards. Hosts live 10-30 minutes’ walk from the junior centre or hosts will drive in and out each day.

Student Welfare

BLS  understand that some students will experience new emotions such as homesickness. This is why we have a full-time dedicated team for our younger learners, to support and guide where needed. All individual junior students will be assigned a member of BLS staff for support and questions throughout the stay. Parents may also need to speak to a member of the BLS welfare team if they are worried or have a question. We are here to help and have an emergency 24-hour phone line.

Junior Programme with Homestay

Why This Programme?

CES Leeds’s Junior School is co-located in Swarthmore Education Centre  and in Leeds City College University Centre  both just a 10-minute-walk from our main school in the centre of Leeds.  Both locations have excellent facilities for our Junior Summer School. The CES dedicated summer school team are on hand to ensure that the school students have an exceptional Yorkshire experience both inside and outside the classroom.

The Programmes

Our football academy is run by two UEFA Qualified Coaches:
Head of Sport Mr Mike Pearson who played football professionally for Oldham Athletic and Barrow AFC, and played internationally for Wales from U16 – 23 level.
Mr Pearson is accompanied by Mr Chris Morrell, who offers a wealth of playing and coaching experience. He has managed football teams in the Welsh Premier league, was Head Coach at Salford.

The experience of our two coaches will culminate in an exciting two week Summer Camp, allowing students to build their English skills and their footballing skills in the beautiful
North Wales countryside.

Discovery Summer School

Shrewsbury is well-known as a traditional independent school. It was founded in 1552 and has Charles Darwin amongst its famous ‘old boys’. Course Information

On arrival, you’ll be given a written and oral test and placed into an English Skills class appropriate for your age and level

Develop core skills as you communicate effectively in spoken and written English. Classes are lively, interactive and fun.

In these fun, task based sessions, you’ll explore new topic areas. Learn through researching, discussing, collaborating and creating

Workshop topics vary week to week.

The world is a changing place right now, and people all need to adapt to IH Manchester new cultural environment. There are exciting opportunities available to anyone with the right skill sets and drive to achieve. The IH Manchester “Global Citizenship” course will help you to develop these skills and improve your global knowledge in order to successfully communicate with people from different countries around the world.

Course Information

  • Sustainability and the Environment: This module will include a visit to Platt Fields Market Garden for a workshop on growing your own food, home composting and connecting with the local environment and community. During the module, students will also develop vocabulary and speaking skills, complete group project work and learn how to create and deliver effective PowerPoint presentations.  
  • The Global Communicator: This module will include a guest speaker slot from a social media expert, who will discuss effective social media campaigns and communication. Students will also complete a group web-quest on effective communicators and create social media posts and content to fulfil a publicity brief.  
  • Critical Thinking for the 21st Century : In this module, students will head out into Manchester to interview locals on a newsworthy topic using a questionnaire they have created on Google Forms. They will also develop vocabulary and debating skills, learn how to critically analyze texts (for example, evaluating ideas and arguments) and how to analyze and present data in clear and compelling reports. 
  • Transferrable skills: Team work, critical thinking and analytical skills, debate skills, presentation skills with PowerPoints, writing skills e.g. reports & emails, intercultural communicative competence, compiling questionnaires and interpreting data.

The IHM Coaching Panel

Sitting twice a year, once in December and again in June, IHM panel will consider the merits of each IHM student player who has:

  • 1 submitted a complete player profile (we will guide you)
  • 2 consistently demonstrated the correct mental attitude and displayed good character at all times
  • 3 engaged in all classroom tasks and activities
  • 4 demonstrated appropriately high football skills and fitness

The Panel will then decide whether to recommend the player attends professional football club trials in Portugal or Spain.
