Education is at the heart of everything BELL do. In 1955, Bell opened its doors with one vision – a world united by intercultural understanding. We believe in the power of language education to transform lives, remove barriers and unlock the world for their students.

Frank’s inspiration came from his time as a prisoner of war during the Second World War. In the harsh conditions of the camp, he taught his fellow prisoners Spanish and French, a simple act of defiance that quickly led to the creation of a ‘secret university’, which taught a broad range of subjects. After the war, Frank Bell returned to England. Reflecting on his experiences, he realised that the route to international co-operation and understanding lay in learning. This led him to open his first language school in Cambridge, which still operates today as Bell Cambridge.

    Student Welfare

To ensure student welfare there is a 9.00 pm curfew, unless students are on a supervised LSI activity or their parents have specified a different time.  Valuables such as passports and airline tickets may be left with the Centre Manager on the student’s first morning, to be kept securely locked in the school. Phone cards are available for purchase at the school for discounted international phone calls. Public transport costs are not included in the course fees. We advise students to buy an Oyster card.

    Travelling between Accommodation and School

On arrival in London, LSI suggest that the student books an LSI taxi to ensure their safe transfer to their accommodation.

The homestays are an easy commute from the school. Between 2 and 4 students will be placed in each of their families so that they can travel together. On their first day, their family will give them full information on how to reach the school.

Please note that (particularly with younger and/or low-level students) we may, where appropriate, place students of the same nationality in one homestay. At school and during leisure activities, they will be in a strictly English-only environment, but it is our experience that younger students or those who have little experience of being away from home, adapt more easily to life in London if they have someone, they are able to communicate with fully. This helps them relax, which in turn reduces the likelihood of homesickness and increases their enjoyment and concentration in the classroom.

    Family Courses

    Why This Programme?

St Giles, offer Family Courses, which are designed for parents and children aged 5 to 15. These courses are a fantastic opportunity for parents and their children to bond, learn a new skill, make new friends from all over the world and visit a country that they have possibly never been to before.

As well as English lessons in the morning and fun activities on certain afternoons, families will enjoy one full-day excursion per week and some free time to spend together, so that everyone can make the most of their stay in the UK.
